DID is a proud sponsor of Kitchen on the Street. Believe it or not, right here in our neighborhood are hungry children.

KOS is dedicated to providing food for hungry children in Title I schools in the Phoenix area. Hungry children or food insecure children, are misdiagnosed every year as having learning disabilities or attention deficit. The fact is that most of these children are simply under nourished. When a child is hungry, he/she can’t focus let alone learn. Education is the key to changing lives and our communities. If the next generation can’t learn due to hunger-a problem than can be solved, how can we expect them to be leaders and implement those changes when it’s their time?

Kitchen on the Street was recently recognized by SELF magazine as an organization that was making the community a better place.  This recognition led to an interview on the Today Show with one of the co-founders of KOS, Lisa Scarpinato.  This segment aired on September 21, 2010.  To view, click the link below.
